William Cortes is President of the Association of Paraguayan Jiu-Jitsu (APJJ). The Paraguayan Jiu Jitsu Association is affiliated with the Ju-Jitsu International Federation (JJIF) by way of the Uruguayan Jiu-Jitsu Federation. William Cortes is Sensei at the Okuden Dojo located in Asunción , Paraguay , South America .

Sensei Cortes has been practicing Jiu-Jitsu since March of 1994, having received his Sandan from his Sensei, Maestro Francisco Birnstill, Shichidan Jiu-Jitsu (Argentinian Confederation of Jiu-Jitsu and Related Sports), and Hachidan, Kodokan Judo.

Sensei Cortes has been contributing to Jiu-Jitsu, helping to increase knowledge of the Art in Paraguay , for which the PARAGUAYAN CORPORATION OF MARTIAL ARTS in National Resolution has distinguished him, signed and dated December 1998. Being an Editorialist and Commercial Director for major newspapers in Paraguay he has helped inform the interested general public about Jiu Jitsu through articles published in newspapers, magazines and TV programs, this has helped increase the number of Jitsuka in Paraguay considerably.

He has been Paraguayan National Champion twice in Fighting System and thrice in Duo System, having won the finals at the Cono Sur National championship in his weight division, was also Cono Sur Champion. He has participated in Mixed Martial Arts (Vale Tudo) competition having won in his weight category in 2003. William has participated and dictated courses and seminars in Brazil and Argentina .

Sensei Cortes has completed a B.S. in Business Management at California Coast University and holds an A.A in Business Administration from Santa Monica College , having graduated with honors in 1986. He has been living in Paraguay since January of 1994 where he currently dedicates his time to the administration of sales, commercial editing and circulation of the largest newspaper in the country, Abc.

William Cortes has been very active in the Paraguayan community, having been a partner and director in the founding of three major newspapers, an AM and FM radio station. He has also been a Cofounder of Masada Foundation, a non profit organization dedicated to education of the principles of democracy and freedom, Club de Ejecutivos del Paraguay (Executive's Club of Paraguay) of which he was cofounder and Vice-President, a not for profit organization dedicated to business to business networking, and the employment generation. Sensei Cortes is also cofounder and actual President of the Paraguayan Association of Jiu-Jitsu, contributing both financially and dedicating time. William Cortes was initiated into freemasonry at the Pythagoras Lodge No 17 in August of 2001.

Sensei Cortes is a Life Member and has been appointed the Official Representative in South America for the following national and international organizations:

Sensei Cortes also serves on the Board of International Advisors for the Martial Arts International Federation (MAIF).
