Sensei Richard M. McPeek was born on February 28, 1969 in Fort Knox , Kentucky , where his father was based after serving in Vietnam . He began taking karate lessons in 1976 at Hamburg Karate Club, in Buffalo , New York , where his father taught Kenpo Jiu-Jitsu/Karate. He competed in several Karate tournaments as a youth in the Western New York area.

In 1980, Richard began training in Judo at the Manson Judo Club in Buffalo , New York . Starting at 11 years old, along with his younger brother and sister and his father, he competed in several Can/Am Judo tournaments in Toronto and many tournaments in the Buffalo area. Richard advanced in rank to Brown Belt in Judo prior to the Judo Club closing in 1984.

He continued training with his father until he and his mother, brother and sister moved to Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania in 1985. Richard finished High School and enlisted in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in 1987 as an Intelligence Analyst and graduated from the US Army Intelligence Center, Fort Huachuca, Arizona in 1988. He received an Honorable Discharge from service in 1995.

Richard entered the Beaver County Police Academy in 1990 and was hired by the Hanover Township Police Department as a Police Officer thru 1994. During this same time frame, he ran and won election to the office of Pennsylvania State Constable in which he worked until 1995. Throughout all of this, Richard kept up his Martial Arts training with his father from a distance. Many questions and answer sessions via the phone, and frequent trips back to his father's school on weekends and days off back up in New York .

Richard was promoted to Shodan, 1st Degree Black Belt in Kenpo Karate, in 1992 by his father Hanshi Ernest G. McPeek, after many years, life changes and interruptions.

In 1994, after being promoted to Nidan, 2nd Degree Black Belt in Kenpo Karate, Richard decided it was time for another life change, and went back to school for Electronics and to pursue a career in computers.

In 1999, Richard received his Shodan, 1st Degree Black Belt in Kenpo Jiu-Jitsu and also in Judo.

In early 2000, Richard moved back to the Buffalo , New York area and began teaching full time at International Schools of Self Defense. While teaching and training there at 31 years old, Richard competed in Kumite in the New York State Jiu-Jitsu Championships, and won 1st place in the heavyweight division. He won again the following year, 2001 New York State Jiu-Jitsu Championship, but in the light heavyweight division.

Richard received his Nidan, 2nd Degree Black Belt, in Kenpo Jiu-Jitsu and in Judo in 2001. While teaching at International Schools of Self Defense, Richard was a Senior Karate Instructor, Head Jiu-Jitsu Instructor, and Head Judo Instructor. He assisted in the redevelopment of the Jiu-Jitsu curriculum, aided in the development of the Junior Judo Program and coached and trained Jiu-Jitsu and Judo competitors in addition to teaching Karate Classes six days a week.

Currently, Richard resides in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is Webmaster for USA Self Defense Centers, Inc., United States Martial Arts Federation, USA Traditional Kodokan Judo, Pan American Ju-Jitsu Union, Martial Arts International Federation, and International Traditional Kodokan Judo .
